Aisling murray is now trending
You might recognise Aisling Murray from Whelehan’s Pharmacy – well, now she is going star in a new TV programme called #Trending.
The 24-year-old has a BSc degree in nutrition from DIT, and has always had a passion for make-up. She has her own YouTube channel with 9,000 subscribers, and now she is to feature on a new TV series sponsored by L’Oréal Paris.
The six-part show on RTÉ 2, presented by Darren Kennedy, puts the “focus on the everyday person and how they influence others,” says Aisling.
“So like I’m an everyday person, I might wear a certain make-up look on my eyes and it might influence you. It’s completely different to Off The Rails – you won’t have your fashion co-ordinator picking out looks, it will be everyday, normal people.
“We were head-hunted by L’Oréal, who were interested in my make-up techniques and because they are so simple everyone can apply them to themselves. So #Trending will focus on a look I’ve put together that will take you from day to night time.”
Aisling, who describes herself as a woman of all trades, has had a busy year, and has just finished starring as a dancer in Oliver at Mullingar Arts Centre, where she also took part in Dancing With the Stars for charity.
“I started working on the Elizabeth Arden make-up and perfume counter in Whelehans and then I moved to the accounts. Now I’m giving nutritional advice to customers.
“I want people to feel that they can come in and talk to me and the other girls. We want to make Whelehans more for every age, not just for medication – to come in for skincare advice, nutrition advice and make-up advice.”
As well as make-up, nutrition and healthy eating are important parts of Aisling’s life and she can give customers advice on the simple changes they can make to their diets that will mean they are getting the most out of their food.
“I would recommend eating a variety of foods, it’s so simple. I don’t like the word diet, I prefer healthy eating, or eating a balanced diet,” Aisling insists.
“It’s now recommended to eat over seven portions of fruit and veg a day, it used to be five, now it’s seven because childhood obesity is taking off at the moment, the government are trying to do something about that.
“Carbohydrates are not a problem but it’s the wrong carbohydrates that will cause obesity. I’m passionate about giving people tips as simple and straightforward as possible. I use the food pyramid to explain. I would always recommend to people to have more fruit and veg than carbohydrates in a day because that’s where you get your vitamins and minerals. They help with your hair, your skin, your figure.
“If you are overweight, it’s because you’re eating too much sugary or fatty food – too many bad carbohydrates. Bad carbohydrates are any foods that are highly processed, for example your white breads, which have salt, sugar, and gluten. Stick to your brown breads and whole meal.”
