Whelehans pharmacy cancer what do you know

The word “Cancer” still strikes fear into the hearts of most people. Historically, once diagnosed the thought was that the illness is terminal. However, through the development of skills and knowledge, along with many campaigns focused on raising awareness, promoting lifestyle wellbeing,  self checking leading to early detection, survival rates for most types of cancer are increasing.
There is an old saying that “knowledge is power, but a little knowledge is a dangerous thing”.

This is especially appropriate when it comes to cancer. For many of us, we have very little knowledge about cancer. In the main, our knowledge only increases if we become exposed to cancer through knowing someone, a friend or a family member perhaps. Then we want to learn so that we may understand what is happening with a view to being more helpful and supportive to this person we know. 

Cancer Awareness Day
With this in mind, the Cancer Awareness Day hosted by Whelehans Pharmacy aims to provide those that want to know more with the most up to date information on Cancer.

We are delighted to announce that the The Cancer Support Sanctuary (the new name of LARCC) is holding a breast cancer information day in Whelehans on Thursday October 30th from 10am and 1pm. There will be a specialist cancer nurse in store all day to provide cancer information for both men and women free of charge in an informal and non-intrusive way in our private consultation room. Information leaflets on Bowel, Lung, Mouth, Skin, Testicular, Prostate, Cervical, Ovarian and Breast cancer will be available. There will be information on The Cancer Support Santuary’s bra service as well info on their cancer support services.

The information day will is open to all touched by cancer (not just breast cancer). Book a consultation with the nurse by calling Whelehans at 04493 34591 or simply call in on the day.
