The answer might surprise you: in real life, actress Michelle Dockery is the daughter of a Westmeath man.
One of the most magnetic and convincing characters on screen, Lady Mary is really the character on whom most of the storylines focus.

Stunningly beautiful, a talented singer, she has grace, poise, dignity, the cut-glass accent of the aristocrat, the porcelain skin of the English rose.

However, Michelle’s father, Michael Francis Dockery is originally from Athlone. He moved to the UK, and married Lorraine (née Witton), from Stepney in East London, and worked his way up from a job as a van driver to the role of surveyor.
