Kian donlon 12 from mullingar to get his hair cut in aid of the rapunzel foundation and childline
Kian Donlon has had long hair for just about his entire life – but he’ll only have it for another two weeks.
That’s because on Wednesday December 10, the 12-year-old from Woodlands, Mullingar will go under the scissors and have his long locks removed and donated to The Rapunzel Foundation which collect ponytails from donors to helpcreate wigs for cancer patients.
Kian will also be collecting money for Childline, who have recently warned they might have to shut down their night-time service due to lack of funds. Kian’s mother Anne said he has never had short hair, so it will be a big change for him.
“He never wanted to have short hair. When he needed a trim, I used to have to bribe him offering to buy him a toy afterwards if he would get his hair cut,” she admits.
“After 12 years – his whole life – of growing locks to be proud of, he is donating his hair to the Rapunzel Foundation and it will be used for real hair wigs for children with long-term hair loss. He’s also going to raise some cash and donate the proceeds to Childline,” said Anne.
Kian, who attends St Kenny NS, has learned from the good example of his brother Rhys, it seems, who did a parachute jump in aid of Childline, four years ago.
Kian will be getting his locks chopped off at 5pm on Wednesday December 10 at Salon Twenty One on Mount Street, Mullingar and people are being urged to dropy by with their purses and wallets so they can contribute.
