Could dessie be set for a return to lake county colours
WESTMEATH manager Tom Cribbin has said he will put no pressure on retired county star Dessie Dolan to rekindle his inter-county career.
Lately, in light of Dolan’s terrific performances at club level for Garrycastle, which came on the back of a glittering and lengthy county career, speculation has mounted that the recently appointed Cribbin will look to convince Dessie into returning for the Lake County.
Speaking in the national media earlier this week, Cribbin was quoted as saying: ““Dessie made his decision to retire and we said we maybe wouldn’t talk to him until later in the new year, give him a break and he’ll know himself whether it’s right to come back or not and if he wants to come back he’ll be more than welcome and if he doesn’t that will be his choice to be honest with you.”
Athlone native Dolan won a Leinster SFC title with Westmeath in 2004 and a coveted All-Star Award in the same year. He recently played a key role in helping his club win the Westmeath SFC and managed 1-5 in the Leinster SFC semi-final defeat against St Vincent’s of Dublin.
In Dessie’s superb career, he’s also won two Leinster U21 titles and an All-Ireland U21 title with Westmeath, as well as a total of six county titles with Garrycastle and the Leinster Club title in 2011.
