Our favourite viral vids of 2014

We have put together a few of the Westmeath Examiner's favourite viral videos of the past year. Most of them made of us laugh, some, such as Stephanie Roche's wonder goal filled us with awe, while others simply made us feel better about the world for a few short moments.

 Father Ray becames a Youtube sensation.

Little did Tyrrellspass native Fr Ray Kelly know when he sang the Leonard Cohen classic 'Hallelujah' at a wedding in April that it would lead to a recording contract with one of the biggest record companies in the world. A recording of his performance was posted on Youtube has been viewed over 35m times on Youtube and made the Oldcastle based priest a star across the world.

His new album Where I Belong was released earlier this month.

'Apparently' boy

Five year Noah Ritter from Pennsylvania got pretty excited about interviewed by one of his local TV stations while on a day out. Apparently, little Noah couldn't stop saying the word 'apparently'.

Stephanie's wonder volley

Irish international Stephanie Roche made headlines across the world last month when she made the shortlist for FIFA's goal of the year contest. Stephanie is the first female to make it the final of FIFA's annual competition. The now French based player's jaw droppingly brilliant volley for former club Peamount United against Wexford Youth's is up against Robert Van Persie's long range header against Spain in the World Cup and James Rodriguez's volley for Columbia against Uruguay in the same compeition.

GAA legends come up trumps for Lar and Jean

Lar Boyle and Jean Collentine got married in Gainstown this summer. Best man James Boyle's speech in the Bloomfield was livened up by a special video message from the Sunday Game's Michael Lyster, Pat Spillane and Colm O'Rourke. In addition to Kerry great Spillane offering the couple marital advice, the trio also discussed Lar's GAA career and his marking of Denis Glennon in an U21 match many years ago.

Max Charles scores Beckhamesque free kick for 'Pollard

Max Charles might not have the same global renown as David Beckham, Robert Carlos or other free kick specialists but the Castlepollard Celtic player can certainly strike a ball as he showed here in a pre-season friendly against Ballymahon in August.
