Delvin garradrimna book fair launched

Launching the 2015 Delvin ‘Garradrimna’ Book Fair at the weekend were, (from left) Marie Grassick, Louis Grassick, Andy Lawlor, Norman Dolan and Paul Carolan.

The book Andy is holding is ‘The Great Delvin’; it was written by Hannah Fitzsimons, and published in 1975.

The book is listed among rare books as not many copies were published. As part of this year’s book fair, the organisers are raffling a recently acquired copy.

Part one of the book gives a complete history of Delvin from ancient times to the present day; part two looks at the archaeology associated with Delvin and delves into areas such as old wives’ tales, ghost stories, local craft and many other things.

This book will be of interest to both old and new inhabitants of Delvin. Lines for the raffle will be on sale from February 11.
