Kildare game a huge test says cribbin

Sunday’s game away to Kildare will be a “huge test” for Westmeath’s senior footballers, according to manager Tom Cribbin.

The Lakesiders go into Sunday's game with one win and one defeat to their name after two rounds of Division 2 of the Allianz Football League.

Describing his side’s form this season as “a little bit Jekyll and Hyde”, manager Cribbin told the Herald that a result in Newbridge against his native county would go a long way to securing his side’s status in Division 2 next season.

“We know this is going to be a huge test. In one sense we are putting a bit of pressure on ourselves, because the last couple of times they played Kildare, they got hidings and weren't able to cope with the pace of the Kildare team. But on the other hand, the pressure is off - we have one win.

"We need at least a point from the two games, otherwise we are leaving ourselves under an awful lot of pressure for the last three matches, two at home," Cribbin added. 

The throw in for Sunday's game is 2pm.

Elsewhere this weekend, Westmeath’s senior ladies football team will be hoping to record their first win in three league outings when they take on Meath in Ashbourne on Sunday, throw in at 1pm.
