Three westmeath properties up for sale in online auction
Three Westmeath properties are going under the virtual hammer in one of Ireland’s first online auctions.
In total 70 houses and apartments are up for sale in the ground breaking auction including a three bed farm house in Streamstown, which has a reserve price of €45,000. According to details on the Allsop website, the single story property extends to 115 sq m and is on a half acre site.
Also set to be included in the 24 hour online auction, the first of its kind in Ireland, is a detached three bed home in the townland of Carne just outside Castlepollard.
Located three kilmometers outside the village, the two story property extends to 135 sq m and comes on a 0.37 acre site.
The final Westmeath property that is set to feature in the auction is a three bed semi-detached home in Athlone. Located in the Willow Park estate on the outskirts of the town, the property, which has a reserve price of €10,000, extends to 90 sq m and has gardens to the front and rear, as well as on street parking.
Launched by property specialists Allsop, who have been hosting sales in Ireland for four years, the auction allows would be buyers to bid for properties online much like shoppers bid for products on websites such as Ebay. Interested parties, who have pre-registered, can bid for properties over a 24 hour period starting at 10am on March 18. As part of the registration process, bidders authorise Allsop to sign the contract on their behalf.
Allosp had tried to hold an online auction last July but had to cancel it due to technical problems.
According to Allsop director Stephen McCarthy, shows that his firm are moving with the times.
“Estate agents haven’t changed how they do business in 45 years, and I think it’s incumbent on people in our business to try new things. Not everyone wants to go into a public room to bid.”
