Race for family pride at spring into summer 5k
A €500 prize fund is on offer on April 26 at Forest Park, Mullingar, where the Spring into Summer 5K road race is taking place. The event is being sponsored by McIntyre’s Spar, Dublin Road, Mullingar and is raising funds for Curraghmore National School.
At 11am athletes and families will take to the Spring into Summer 5k Run and a 2k Family Fun Run. Participants who sign up for the race before April 17 will receive a personalised race number that is pre-printed with their family name. The organisers say this is unique in an event of this type and will be great to encourage kids to join in.
“When running for family pride, everyone’s a winner and we all will look like professionals,” says Ray McDonnell, chairperson of the Parents Association at Curraghmore NS.
There are two races – the 5k and the 2k Family Fun Run – with a prize fund of €500. First to cross the line bags a €100 cash prize, second and third win €50 each; there are first, second and third for both men and ladies.
There will also be prizes for the best fancy dress runner for both the 5k and the Family Fun Run, and spot prizes to win on the day.
After the race, the prize giving event will be at the Mullingar Charity Variety Group centre, where refreshments will also be served.
Noel McIntyre of McIntyre’s Spar is encouraging everybody to sign up for the event, which promises to be a great day out:
“Here at McIntyre’s Spar being an active member of our community is important to us, which is why we’re delighted to be sponsoring the Spring into Summer event. Make sure you register early to receive your personalised race number with your family name, essential for your finish line photo.”
Entry fee for adults is €12, kids €5 and for a family of four costs €25. For registration, please visit runireland.ie.
