Tomorrow is last day for 1916 ideas

The public consultation process on Westmeath’s 2016 centenary programme closes tomorrow.

The County Council issued a call-out on April 10, asking for local groups, organizations and individuals to be part of the party.

Two public meetings were held – one in Athlone and one in Mullingar.

But tomorrow is the last day for the receipt of submissions or ideas.

These can go to the Ireland2016 coordinator at the county buildings by emailing ireland2016@westmeathcoco.ie

Council cathaoirleach, Paddy Hill, said earlier this year, that Ireland 2016 is a year of “reflection and engagement”.

“It is a once-in-a-century invitation to people of all ages, at home and overseas, to shape and take part in a diverse range of historical, cultural and artistic activities, all designed to nurture reflection, commemoration, celebration and debate,” he said.

“There is a wealth of imagination, energy and vision available to us in Westmeath and I want to encourage everyone to get involved in their own way so we can make Ireland 2016 a truly national event

Westmeath County Council has appointed a Steering Group who will be responsible for coordinating the local programme.
