Yes vote set to win in longford westmeath
Tally figures show a strong “yes” vote has been recorded in Longford Westmeath in yesterday's same sex marriage referedum, with 54.12 per cent voting in favour of the constitutional amendment required to allow gay couples wed, and 45.88 per cent voting against.
However, a majority of Longford voters voted against, with Westmeath voting for. The Longford No figure was 50.41 per cent, and the Yes figure was 49.59, while in Westmeath, 56.35 per cent voted in favour, and 43.65 per cent voted against.
The Yes vote was highest in the Mullingar/Coole constituency, at 58.15 per cent, while in Athlone it was 56.43 per cent and in Mullingar/Kilbeggan, 45.09 per cent.
In a small number of boxes, the No vote was higher than the Yes, the tallies indicate.
The strongest No votes were recorded in the Balrath box in Castletown NS, where 68.48 per cent voted No.
No votes were recorded also in both Tyrrellspass boxes, Taghmon; one of the Rathowen Community Centre boxes, Moyvoughley, Ballynacargy’s two boxes, Milltown, Drukmraney, Loughegar, Boher, Loughnavalley; a number of Athlone boxes, one of Ballymore’s two boxes; Rosemount, Castletown Geoghegan, The Downs, Coralstown, Tang, and a Kilbeggan Parish Centre box.
In all other areas, the Yes vote won out.
