Midlands lucky seven claim 59 million lotto jackpot
There were lots of happy faces at National Lottery offices in Dublin today as a syndicate of seven from the midlands collected their huge Lotto jackpot prize of €5,900,958.
The delighted group, who wish to remain private, won the fortune in the Lotto draw on Saturday May 9 after buying a Lotto ticket in Tesco, Ash Road, Mullingar. The lucky seven will split the winnings equally, each pocketing €842,994.
As they celebrated the momentous occasion today in the National Lottery’s Winners’ Room, with a few glasses of champagne, a spokesperson for the lucky group said:
“We’ve played the same numbers since Lotto began in 1988 and the most we’d won before was €56. I knew those numbers would do us good one day!”
The winning numbers were 2, 5, 13, 17, 32 and 34.
“When I checked the ticket, I couldn’t believe it. It still doesn’t feel real for us. We’re delighted,” he smiled.
May was a lucky month for Mullingar as a second major Lotto prize winning ticket was sold in town last month.
A Westmeath couple won the Lotto Plus 2 top prize of €250,000 on Wednesday May 20 after buying their ticket in Rochforts on Dominick Street in Mullingar.
And Mullingar has a lucky Lotto history.
A jackpot prize of €10,651,567 was won by Carol Loran and Kevin Geoghegan in May 2013.
They bought their ticket in Tesco, Ash Road, Mullingar – the same store in which today’s winners bought their winning ticket. Carol and Kevin are Westmeath’s biggest Lotto jackpot winners to date.
Since Lotto began in 1988 there have been 24 Lotto jackpot winners in the county of Westmeath, with over €33 million in jackpot prizes being won in the county in total.
Tomorrow night’s Lotto jackpot (Wednesday June 3) is an estimated €5 million. Play at your National Lottery agent shop by 7.45pm tomorrow evening or online at lottery.ie by 7.40pm for your chance to win. It could be you!
