Woman injured in serious road accident

A woman in her late 30s is in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin following a serious accident close to Drumraney last night.

Emergency services attended the scene along the main R390 Athlone to Mullingar road at 9.30pm, after a single vehicle crash involving a motorbike.

The driver, a woman in her late 30s, was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore before later being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. The extent of her injuries is as yet unknown.

The Athlone to Mullingar road is closed at Baskin, close to Drumraney, for a technical examination this morning. Gardai believe it may be re-opened by lunchtime.

Diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Those travelling between Athlone and Mullingar are advised to use the M6 motorway instead.
