Ballymore man peter wins gold in la

It was well after midnight before word filtered through to Ballymore: a local man had won the area its first ever Special Olympic gold medal.
Then again, the gold wasn’t “in the bag” for Peter Malynn in the final of the Bocce singles competition at the Los Angeles Convention Centre, until 1.30am.
For the family of the 57 year old there was great joy - and that joy is shared by the community of Ballymore, who have organised a welcome home celebration for this Tuesday night to mark his achievement.
The party is taking place at Ballymore Community Centre, and all local clubs and organisations have come together to ensure Peter gets the welcome that a returning Olympian is due, says Dale Greenwood, from Ballymore.
Peter, who attends St Hilda’s in Athlone, is son of Kathleen and Peter Malynn, and his brothers are John, Oliver and Aidan, all of whom still live in Ballymore, and Seamus, who lives in the middle east.
Peter still has a chance of another medal in the pairs competition.
