Latest weather for august bank holiday weekend
The predicted storm which is currently making its way up the Atlantic seaboard is expected to unleash the full force of its fury on Sunday night right through Monday and Tuesday.
On Sunday afternoon into evening, the midlands will experience heavy rain and wind will increase to fresh and gusty.
“By Monday afternoon, winds will reach 80 - 90kms, which isn’t overly exceptional, but, given the time of year it certainly is for early August,” says Cathal Nolan of the Midlands Weather Channel.”
Certainly all western areas are in for a bashing, with gales of 100 - 110kms predicted.
“The path of this storm has certainly proven very difficult to pinpoint," continues Cathal.
"If its centre moves even 100kms more to the east, which is nothing in meteorological terms, that will see wind speeds increase from to 120kms in the west. In the midlands, that would increase the force up to 110kms.
But take heart, Bank Holiday Saturday looks to see some pleasant spells of sunshine in mainly light winds, with highs of between 15 and 18
“Saturday is the best day of the weekend due to a ridge of high pressure moving in across the midlands. So if you’ve any plans over the weekend, make sure to schedule them for Saturday and the first half of Sunday.”
So it’s not all doom and gloom...!
