Dempsey domination at mondello park
Newly announced Dunlop Motorsport Young Racing Driver of the Month for June, Jordan Dempsey returned to Mondello Park last weekend for the penultimate weekend of the Ginetta Junior Ireland Championship.
Despite securing a pair of podium finishes at the last two rounds, Dempsey had slipped back to second in the standings behind main rival James Roe and was keen to put things right this time round.
With an extra spring in his step having just this week received the news that every young driver wants to hear, that they have been nominated for the Dunlop Sexton Trophy, Jordan was the quickest man off the blocks throughout Saturday’s pre-event test.
Having made a number of adjustments since the last round to his MCP supported Ginetta, Dempsey carried the form into Sunday’s qualifying, netting pole position for both of the day’s races.
A determined Dempsey wasn’t going to settle for anything less than a win in race one. A quick getaway was followed by a sequence of uninterrupted qualifying laps that saw the Mullingar teenager open a lead of over ten seconds. It was a drama free lights to flag victory for Jordan, showing speed and consistency far beyond his years of experience.
Lining up once again in pole position for race two, Dempsey’s mind-set was firmly placed on executing a picture perfect repeat performance. Down into the first corner, Jordan again became the runaway leader.
With main rival Roe just behind him, a battle for second was now starting to commence which was just what Dempsey could have hoped for as he set off into the distance. Clocking up his second fastest lap of the race meeting, Dempsey’s lead was once again in excess of ten seconds to take his second lights to flag victory of the weekend.
Fifteen year old Jordan's dominant performance now places him firmly in the lead of the 2015 Ginetta Junior Ireland Championship coming to the final two rounds on Saturday and Sunday, September 19 and 20 at Mondello Park.
“It’s been a brilliant two races today with two wins, two poles and two fastest laps," Jordan said after last weekend's meeting. "We fell to second in the championship at the last event, so I wanted to make sure we got back on the top step this weekend.
"The car has been brilliant this weekend, MCP have done a great job. The support of MCP, Kildare Crash Centre, P1 : Digital and my family has been super, so now roll on the Leinster Trophy!”
