Fulbright commission to visit ait
Representatives of the Fulbright Commission of Ireland will visit Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) on Thursday October 8 to talk to students and researchers about funded postgraduate study, research or teaching in the US.
The Fulbright Commission annually awards grants to Irish and EU postgraduate students, scholars, and professionals to study, research, and lecture in the United States and for Americans to do the same in Ireland.
Dr Luke Geever, a senior research fellow and principal investigator in AIT’s Materials Research Institute, travels to Boston this month as the Fulbright-Enterprise Ireland Scholar.
Dr Geever, who leads one of Ireland’s largest polymer research groups, will undertake research at the Harvard Medical School and the Mayo Clinic.
Thirty-one Fulbright Awards were announced by Minister for Diaspora Affairs, Jimmy Deenihan TD, and the US Ambassador to Ireland, Kevin O’Malley, in June.
Fulbright Awards include a monetary grant, visa administration, accident and emergency insurance, and a range of cultural and professional programming. Applications are welcome in all disciplines including science, technology, law, business, arts, humanities and the Irish language.
The information session will be held in the boardroom of the Midlands Innovation and Research Centre on AIT’s East Campus at 2pm on Thursday October 8.
