Franky wright gearing up for the worlds
Representing Ireland in the ITU Duathlon World Championships in Adelaide this Sunday October 18 is Mullingar's Franky Wright.
As the only Irishman taking part, the 51-year-old faces a 5k run, 20k cycle and 2.5k race to the finish.
"I don't know if there is anyone else competing from Ireland," Franky told the Westmeath Examiner.
"At any age, to get to represent your country, I think is an honour, so if you can do it, why not!" says Franky who will be competing in the 50 - 55 age category.
Son Zach (13) will be climbing Mount Kosciuszko - Australia's highest peak -in aid of St Brigids School in Mullingar.
Standing at 2,228 metres high, or 7,310ft, Kosciuszko is located in the Snowy Mountains in Canberra and is no mean feat.
"Every year St Brigids School hold their Gaisce Awards in Lilliput. They are trying to raise money for equipment for a playground for the older school kids.
"We'd love to raise €10,000 for them. We have sponsorship cards out there at the moment."
