Moves underway to return 21 year old crash victim's body to his parents in Brazil
The body of the 21 year old Brazillian man, Ramon Carvalho Peixoto, who was living in Mullingar, but who died in a car crash on Thursday last, is being flown home to his family this Thursday.
His death was the second tragedy to strike his family in just 18 months: Ramon’s 14-year-old sister died just before he left Brazil to come to work in Ireland. His parents’ only surviving child is Ramon’s 19 year old sister. Ramon is also survived by his own daughter, who is a year and three months old.
Mr Carvalho was living in D’Alton Park with his aunt and uncle, Luciene and Jair Muniz, and travelling daily to work in a meat factory in Duleek.
“He was like a brother to us,” said Isabella Muniz, his broken-hearted cousin this week, adding that her brother and another friend were in the car when it crashed into a wall near Duleek at around 7.30am last Thursday.
Fire and rescue personnel had to cut two of the occupants from the vehicle, but sadly, Ramon was critically injured, and he died later that evening at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
An appeal is under way to raise the €20,000 for the costs arising from the repatriation of Ramon’s body to his parents in his native country and to help the family with the funeral costs. The family is not wealthy, and indeed, Ramon was sending home what he could from his pay in Ireland.
The family are devout Catholics, and are anxious to have Ramon buried in his own parish, after Mass in their local church.
