Westmeath man wins €250,000

Champagne flowed at National Lottery offices today as a happy man from Westmeath picked up a cheque for €250,000.

The winner, who wishes to keep the win private, won the top prize in Saturday’s Lotto Plus 2 draw.

“I’m delighted,” said the winner, who plays Lotto from time to time.

“I wouldn’t win an argument so this is great news.”

And the great news continued. “There was another Lotto Plus 2 winner on the night and we spent the whole weekend debating whether or not I’d have to share the prize. To have it confirmed that I’ll take home the lot is the icing on the cake.”

The winner has no immediate plans for the windfall and is looking forward to taking some time to reflect before making any big decisions.

He bought his €5 Quick Pick ticket in Mulligan’s Londis and Post Office on the Roscommon Road in Athlone on the day of the draw.

The second Lotto Plus 2 top prize winner from the weekend has yet to claim their prize.

The winning ticket was purchased in Vincent’s Newsagents on the Main Street in Killinaule, Thurles, County Tipperary.

All winners have 90 days from the day of the draw to collect a prize.
