Crisis meeting for Loughnavalley GFC
What is being described as a crisis meeting concerning the future of Loughnavalley GFC has been called for Friday next, May 13th. The meeting, to be held in Loughnavalley Hall will commence at 9pm.
In existence since 1977, a serious question mark hangs over the future of the club with Westmeath County Board being made aware there could a difficulty in affiliating the club in the future.
Former club members have banded together in a bid to save the club, along with its playing field and facilities close to the village. Should the club be unable to affiliate down the line, the grounds, facilities and any cash remaining in the club's coffers would revert to Westmeath County Board.
The difficulty stems from the lack of active playing members and every effort is to be made to boost numbers in the coming weeks. In advance of Friday's meeting up to 30 players have received text messages and former club members are hopeful this last ditch effort will prevent the unthinkable and retain both the club and its facilities in the village.
