Odds slashed on Leinster title after U21 hurlers' historic win

After the creaming the Cats last night in Cusack Park the odds on Westmeath U21 hurlers winning an historic first Leinster title have been slashed.

As a result the Lake County are now 9/2 from 50/1 to win the Leinster U21 crown, whilst they are 40/1 to go all the way and lift the Cross Of Cashel trophy.

Westmeath senior hurlers are also on a high at the moment, having won all three of their qualifying games to set up a home Leinster quarter final clash on June 5 against last year’s All-Ireland beaten finalists Galway. Michael Ryan’s squad are 12/1 to cause another shock upset.

With hurling blooming in the Lake County, Westmeath are 16/1 to win a Senior Leinster Hurling title before 2026 and 5/1 to reach a Leinster SHC Final before 2020.

Liam Glynn, BoyleSports’ spokesperson said: “Westmeath U21 Hurlers are the new Leicester City after stunning Kilkenny on Wednesday evening in Mullingar and as a result their price has crashed into 9/2 from 50/1 to win the Leinster U21 title.”

He added “Westmeath Senior Hurlers are also on the crest of a wave and despite being 12/1 to beat Galway on June 5 in Mullingar they shouldn’t be under estimated as hurling in the Lake County is now at its best ever and no team will scare Westmeath hurlers away.”
