Gardai up the ante in bid to halt speeding
Motorists will need to keep their feet well above the accelerator more than ever, after An Garda Síochána announced speeding motorists are to be tackled at even more locations from midnight tonight.
What makes this new initiative different from its predecessors is that the focus is not just on main roads, but in the town as well.
In Mullingar, the entire stretch of road from the Greville Arms up to the Dublin Bridge makes it on to the map. Also to be targeted is all of Patrick Street and the Grange area, from the Green Bridge to Weldon’s Cross.
The Delvin Road line continues then from the Dublin Bridge all the way out to the Macetown area, resuming again, beyond Cloughan and continuing to Killynan and picking up once more this side of Delvin, continuing right through the town, and taking in a stretch midway between Delvin and Clonmellon.
Also in the Delvin area is a stretch around Copperalley.
Motorists heading out the Castlepollard and Longford directions will need to take care from the 'C-Link’ before the Mullingar hospital roundabout almost as far as Cullionbeg, while a long stretch in front of Lough Owel, on the Longford Road, makes it onto the list of targeted locations.
Ballinalack and Rathowen are included in their entirety as is a long stretch of road between Ballynacargy and Mullingar.
The Skeaghmore area of the road between Moyvore and Mullingar is included, and the notorious Loughnavalley stays on the map.
The entire length of the 'old road’ between Moate and Horseleap also features, also long stretches before, through and after Tyrrellspass, and the majority of the road from Rochfortbridge to Milltownpass.
The N52 from the Belvedere House junction to Ballinderry is included.
Motorists heading in the Dublin direction on the N4 may well find cameras in action from Pettitswood to the Downs Interchange, and also to be targeted is the R156 from The Downs to near Killucan.
