Mourner resuscitated by gardaí
A man in his 50s was recovering in hospital in Mullingar early this week, after falling ill at a funeral service in the town on Sunday.
According to a garda report, the man, who is believed to be from the Kilbeggan area, collapsed in Bishopgate Street at about 5pm, as he was paying his respects at the removal of a local man.
A woman who witnessed the man's distress, immediately went to locate a defibrillator and came across two gardaí, Neil Donellan and Dave Hannon who immediately went to the scene.
They commenced CPR and later used the defibrillator for the man, who had become unresponsive.
The man initially responded but later crashed a second time while in the hospital en route to hospital.
Fortunately, the paramedics were able to resuscitate their patient a second time and according to gardaí, the man is responding well to treatment.
