Paid parking generates more than €1m
MULLINGAR MUNICIPAL DISTRICT
At a meeting of Mullingar Municipal District last month, one of the councillors asked for details of paid parking in the town and was told the amount generated was more than €1m.
Cllr Michael Dollard asked, in the context of revenue receipts for year the 2016 in respect of paid parking in Mullingar, that the council provide information on the following:
the total amount paid for parking tickets by motorists;
fines receipts;
the total amount paid to businesses for renting car parks;
administrative costs which would include payroll;
capital costs, for example repairs and replacement of infrastructure;
and the total overall profit.
He was told that the actual amount paid for parking tickets by motorists was €1,150,637;
fines totalled €192,053;
the total amount paid to businesses for renting car parks was €110,638;
administrative costs came in at €387,806;
capital costs were €65,831;
and the total overall profit was €515,000.
A figure of €263,040 for capital projects is utilised in the framing of the overall budget.
Council official Martin Murray said the latter figure was variable, depending on income and expenditure, while trying to ringfence €515,000.
