Bloomfield staff member marks 30 years in job
Adrienne Geraghty, one of Bloomfield House Hotel’s many long serving members of staff, recently celebrated 30 years service.
In 1987, Adrienne completed her work experience at Bloomfield House Hotel as part of her front office course at the Regional Technical College Athlone, now known as AIT.
Afterwards, the late Mr Reilly, then proprietor of the hotel, offered Adrienne a full-time job.
She accepted the role and hasn’t looked back since.
Having worked on reception for a number of years, she is now the reservations manager at the hotel.
Adrienne is part of the colourful history of Bloomfield House, which was originally used as a romantic dower house to celebrate the marriage of Dora Bloomfield to George Rochfort, 2nd Earl of Belvedere.
In 1932, the Bloomfield property was donated to the Missionary Franciscan Nuns.
The sisters accepted this gracious donation and set up a convent and school at Bloomfield, which they held until 1979.
At that time the premises was acquired by a group of local businessmen who saw great potential in the property as a hotel and transformed the building and grounds into a 29-bedroom facility.
Adrienne has seen many changes to the hotel during her years working there.
In 1998 it increased in size from its original 29 bedrooms to 65, with the addition of a leisure club and spa.
Further renovations began in 2004, which involved renovating the lobby, bar, restaurant and bedrooms.
The work also included the addition of a new carvery and 46 bedrooms, including executive and presidential suites taking the total number of bedrooms to 111.
Adrienne recalls in her early days at Bloomfield how the telephone system was the old operator switchboard where calls would have to be plugged in and out to connect them.
All menus and letters were done on a typewriter, whereas now calls can be automatically connected to extensions and everything is computerised.
Adrienne married the popular local entertainer, DJ Sarge Geraghty, in 1992 and they held their reception at Bloomfield House Hotel. She has one son, Luke.
The hotel management are proud to have so many long-serving members of staff offering loyal and dedicated service to the hotel and together with the team at Bloomfield House Hotel congratulate Adrienne on a great achievement.
“The family atmosphere and camaraderie of the staff is wonderful,” said Adrienne.
“We all pull together and that is what makes Bloomfield so special for me. I look forward to many more happy years at Bloomfield House Hotel.”
