Cllr Avril Whitney steps down from role as councillor
Cllr Whitney has been a member of the County Council for five years and is also currently chairperson of the Longford Westmeath Education Training Board, on which she has been a representative of Westmeath County Council.
A primary school teacher, Cllr Whitney said she made the decision to step down for personal reasons and the other commitments in her life. The time demands were heavy, she explained, and other areas of her life were suffering.
“I took it very seriously and you miss out on an awful lot,” she said.
Cllr Whitney said that she had enjoyed being able to help people through the role, and that she would always be someone prepared to help people.
She stressed that she is not leaving Fianna Fáil and said she will continue to canvass for the party at election times.
