Town Band hoping for All Ireland title
A great afternoon of marching band music is promised for The Downs this Saturday, when three of Ireland's top marching bands meet for the final of this year's All-Ireland Marching Bands competition.
Hosting the event jointly are Mulingar Town Band along with The Downs GAA – and since Mullingar Town Band is one of the three remaining drum corps/marching bands in the Irish league of Drum Corp Europe, local support would be greatly appreciated.
The significance of victory in the event is large: the winning band will be crowned the All Ireland title-holder on the day and be named Ireland's top marching band for the year 2017/2018!
Up against Mullingar are the Vikings Drum Corp hailing from Tallaght and the Inbhear Mor Performance Ensemble from Arklow.
You might witness a day for the history books at this event folks as Mullingar Town Band has never (in its 140 years!) won an All Ireland final.
The competition starts sharp at 2pm on Saturday, September 2, and it's advised to be there by 1.45pm.
Last week, the Mullingar Town Band travelled to Kerry to take part in the Rose of Tralee festival.
