Massive sale starts at Shaw's as result of store wall collapse
A massive sale is to start at Shaw's Hardware store in Mullingar tomorrow morning, Monday, as staff clear the way for renovations necessitated by the collapse of a wall at the store.
Reductions of up to 50 per cent are being offered on items across the store, located on Mullingar's Pearse Street.
Established over 120 years ago, Shaw's Hardware is one of Ireland's longest-established stores, and while they do have a sale each year, this is probably their largest ever.
The wall collapse occured at the side of the store that overlooks the site where the new Eason store is under construction.
Sometime between Thursday evening and Friday morning of last week, a 35 ft x 14 ft section of wall effectively “slid” downwards, sending large quantities of dust and rubble into the store..d.
“Dismay and shock” were the reactions of staff at the sight - but that was followed by immediate relief that things weren't worse, and that the collapse happened overnight when the store was closed.
“We were in utter shock, but at the same time were were relieved no-one was injured and that not a lot of damage was done to the interior,” said Eleana Shaw as, behind closed doors, staff prepared for the massive sale.
The store opens at 9.30am tomorrow, Monday.
