€600,000 investment for Westmeath towns and villages
Deputy Peter Burke, Fine Gael TD for Longford Westmeath has confirmed that Westmeath will receive €596,000 investment for rural town and villages.
“I was delighted to hear directly from Minister Ring this morning that Westmeath has again been a large beneficiary of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme as we have received €596,000 in funding.
This money has been distributed across the county as follows:
Ballynacargy, enhance canal harbour, enhance two public spaces on Main Street, €40,000.
Ballinahown, three craft mobile sales points, €32,000.
Collinstown, develop village centre, €72,000.
Delvin, signage, surface dressing of laneway, improve lighting, provide parking, €68,000.
Killucan Rathwire, improvement enhancement town park, restoration of mass path, address high level of dereliction, €76,000.
Kinnegad, car parking, €33,600.
Milltownpass, economic hub, €84,000.
Moate, car and bus parking, €92,000.
Rahugh, renovation and repair to local landmark, €38,400.
Streamstown, refurbishment of old railway station, €60,000.
Deputy Burke said: “I have made a number of representations to Minister Ring and his staff since his department was established by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in June. It is an important department for Westmeath as much of our population live rurally and we need investment in our towns and villages to keep them alive and vibrant.
“This is exactly what the Town and Village Renewal scheme aims to do, and this money is going to 10 worthwhile projects, which will pay dividends for the communities they are based in.
“I am glad to have worked alongside a number of these projects and to see them being delivered.”
The funding will be used for identified by Westmeath County Council in conjunction with community groups and businesses.
“We are determined to get this funding out to rural Westmeath as quickly as possible,” said Deputy Burke, “and now that the projects have been approved, work can get under way.
“This scheme is an important part of Fine Gael’s commitment to rejuvenate and revitalise rural Ireland.
“We are also rolling out a range of other initiatives, including the REDZ scheme, the recently reopened CLÁR scheme and the Rural Recreation Scheme.”
