Bench warrant issued for Nevin's arrest
A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of Olympic silver medal-winning boxer John Joe Nevin, after he failed to appear at Mullingar District Court today.
Mr Nevin, of 7 St Anthony’s Cottages, Mullingar, was required to appear at today’s sitting of the court to provide Garda Gary Power with €250 in compensation, on foot of a public order charge.
Last month, Mr Nevin had pleaded guilty to using or engaging in threatening or abusive words or behaviour at St Anthony’s Cottages on November 12, 2017.
On the day in question, Mr Nevin had been stopped by gardaí investigating a theft at a local filling station. Gardaí alleged that the lady accused of the theft had left in Mr Nevin’s car.
When questioned by gardaí, the defendant became abusive and said that if he got Garda Power into the ring, he would “leave his big nose on the other side of his face”.
Trish Cronin, solicitor, appeared for Mr Nevin in court this afternoon, with Judge Seamus Hughes presiding.
