Social Democrats select Fiona Lynam as candidate for Longford Westmeath
The Social Democrats have announced Fiona Lynam as the party’s candidate to contest the next local election in Longford Westmeath.
Fiona, a native of Baylin with extensive experience as an IT programme manager for international and Irish companies, is an energetic and committed local campaigner for better mental health services, better supports for families, and better access to services for children with physical or intellectual disabilities.
She said: “I’m really honoured to be contesting the next local election for the Social Democrats in Longford Westmeath.
“Our communities face enormous challenges when it comes to providing affordable housing and proper access to healthcare.
“Yet, we have learned in recent months that we can deliver improvements in people’s lives through grassroots activism, compassion and bold leadership.”
The party’s co-leaders Catherine Murphy, TD, and Róisín Shortall, TD, said: “Fiona has enormous compassion and energy and she is driven by her deep commitment to build a decent society where no one is left behind.
“As she has a strong track record of working tirelessly for her community, she will be an excellent public representative for the Athlone municipal area and will champion investment in people, proper public services and a vibrant and sustainable economy.”
Fiona will contest the next Local elections for the party in the Athlone ward.
The selection process is continuing with plans for the party to contest every local authority in the country.
The official launch of Fiona’s campaign is on Saturday next, November 3, at 6.30pm in the Sheraton hotel, Athlone.
