Minister for Justice and Equality visits Mullingar
Charlie Flanagan, Minister for Justice and Equality, was in Mullingar today, when he met management and staff at Mullingar Garda Station and performed the official opening of the refurbished courthouse.
The minister spent an hour at the garda station, discussing operational issues and policing initiatives.
He praised the community policing efforts in particular and inquired about resources and deployment of new gardaí.
He confirmed he received an 8% increase in Budget 2019 and will be ensuring that Westmeath gets its fair share of recruits, as staff had highlighted that the Westmeath force had benefited from new recruits this year which has alleviated pressure and assisted greatly in their work.
Peter Burke, TD, then took Minister Flanagan to the relaunch of O’Brien’s Centra on the Lynn Road in Mullingar.
There, he had coffee and chatted with local people, staff and management.
He also visited Seamus Bracken’s craft butcher shop and sampled some of the produce kindly provided by staff.
The minister then carried out the official opening of the courthouse (more on that later).
