Garda roll out Christmas safe drive campaign
The annual garda appeal to motorists to take care on the roads over the Festive Season, was launched in Mullingar on Friday last, December 7.
Primarily aimed at curbing drinking and driving, the campaign will continue into early in the New Year and over its duration additional garda checkpoints will be in operation.
Ahead of the launch, the Roads Policing Unit in Mullingar have taken possession of a new hi-tech vehicle, comprising all the latest technology to detect motorists who are not tax and insurance compliant.
The campaign has been rolled out across the entire Westmeath Division and rather than resulting in detections, senior officers in Mullingar are hopeful that drivers in the area will take heed of the ongoing warnings to reduce their speed and to never, ever drink and drive.
