Showband Show's 10th anniversary
The Ronan Collins Showband Show. ‘Reeling In the Showband Years’ has been a smash hit for the last nine years, and it returns once again to The Greville Arms Hotel tonight, Thursday January 3.
And what a line-up it is this year!
As is the norm, RTÉ presenter Ronan Collins is the host and compère, and the line-up is a who’s who from the Irish showbiz world, with Red Hurley and Linda Martin among them.
Ronan, a gifted singer in his own right, will perform some of Joe Dolan’s greatest hits as well as some Eurovision hits.
Red Hurley has been at the coalface for the last 40 years and has been fêted from Las Vegas to the Deep South in the USA.
His great big, soaring voice has captivated audiences since he hit the stage with The Nevada Showband and he has a long list of credits to his name.
Linda Martin started off as lead singer with that great band ‘Chips’ and went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest in 1992 with ‘Why Me?’.
Linda’s career spans more than just singing: she has been a presenter on multiple shows for RTÉ.
Dave Lawlor, a master stage craftsman with another big voice, was a hit on last year’s show. He is all you could ask for in an entertainer.
Brother and sister combo Keith and Lorraine McDonald come from one of the oldest musical families in Ireland. Their father, Frankie, was trumpet player with Joe Dolan for many years.
The Conquerors – one of the greatest showbands of them all – are still packing them in everywhere they go. The Galway boys sang ‘Baby Blue’ and many more hits.
Local faces Tommy and Jimmy Swarbrigg put Mullingar on the map when they headed to the Eurovision – twice!
The two sing their Euro songs ‘If Ma could see me now’ and ‘Looking Through the eyes of a Beautiful Girl’ as well as their other massive hits.
The show’s exciting finale is an all-cast salute to the showband era when all of the stars join in for a medley of songs from the unique showband years – and as it is the 10th anniversary of this wonderful show, the cast will be pulling out all the stops to make it really special!
