Men's Sheds receive €19,000 in funding

A total of 14 Men’s Sheds in Westmeath are to benefit from €18,841 in funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development.

The monies will be used towards equipment and building upgrades.

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring TD, announced on Monday of this week that 310 Men’s Sheds nationally have been approved to receive funding from the department to share in a pot of €500,000 under the Men’s Sheds stream of the Community Enhancement Programme.

This will enable individual Men’s Sheds to upgrade their facilities by purchasing equipment or by carrying out minor works to improve their facilities. The initiative was developed in association with the Irish Men’s Sheds Association.

Following the allocation of the funding to each local authority area last July, applications were then overseen by Local Community Development Committees around the country. Following this process, Minister Ring can now confirm that funding has been allocated to 310 Men’s Sheds across every county in Ireland.

Coosan Men’s Shed, Equipment €1,449.31

Delvin Men’s Shed, Upgrade of current building €1,449.31

Kilbeggan Men’s Shed, Bandsaw and dust extractor €1,449.31

Killucan Men’s Shed, Dust extractor, lathe and planer thicknesser €1,449.31

Moate Men’s Shed, Tools, storage box and wood €1,449.31

Mullingar Men’s Shed, Facilities upgrade €1,449.31

Multyfarnham Men’s Shed, Electrical work to premises €1,449.31

Rochfortbridge Men’s Shed, Alarm system and storage unit €1,449.31

Sonna Ballynacargy and District Men’s Shed, Bespoke benches and power tools €1,449.31

Streete and District Men’s Shed, Computer equipment €1,449.31.

 

Minister Michael Ring said it was heartening to hear what individual Sheds are doing with the money.

“The emergence of the Men’s Sheds in recent years has been an extremely positive development for communities across Ireland.

“Members possess great experience and know-how and they make a massive contribution to their local communities,” said Minister Ring.

He added that Men’s Sheds provide invaluable support to important local initiatives such as Tidy Towns groups, festivals and charity events.

“Men’s sheds are a great initiative and I’m happy to help in this way,” he said.
