Tyrrellspass set for St Patrick’s Day Parade
Plans are still coming together well for the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade in Tyrrellspass – the Tidy Town.
The committee have already secured the services of Rathanna Marching Band, from County Carlow again this year, and the Old World Kitchen will be back and open for some nostalgia, and a lot of music.
In addition they will have An Fear Coillte, Will Fogarty from Limerick, who will demonstrate his remarkable wood carving skills using a chainsaw. This will be the third time for Will to visit Tyrrellspass and following the late cancellation of our parade in 2019, the organisers are delighted to welcome him back.
In the past Will has presented Tyrrellspass with some of his work, which the organisers raffled.
His work can be viewed on the Le Chéile website and it is well worth it, to see the full range of his work.
The committee are now taking entries for floats from all businesses and community and volunteer groups. Following the goodwill and generosity the organisers felt in 2019, they have decided to repay some of that by waiving the cost of entering floats in this year’s parade. They normally charge €50 for businesses and €25 for voluntary and community groups, but, this year it is free to enter a float.
Just remember that all float entries have to be registered with the committee for insurance purposes. They hope there will be many groups and business willing to enter a float and to use this great opportunity to promote their services.
If anyone would like to make a donation or contribute with some sponsorship, the organisers will gratefully accept. Once again, the theme is ‘Anything Goes’ and that leaves it entirely up to entrants to decide on themes for their floats.
The Tyrrellspass St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee Annual Fundraising Table Quiz is on Friday February 21 in the Spinning Wheel in Tyrrellspass at 9pm. Raffle and spot prizes on the night; the cost for a table of four is €40.
If anyone would like to get involved and help with the arrangements, please feel free to call down to the weekly meetings, on Mondays in the GAA pavilion at 8.30pm.
