The largest student fundraiser in the country, Jailbreak 2020, ended with success for six teams, who made it to Location X today.
Yvonne Butler from Trinity and Ciara Browne from (UCD) won Jailbreak 2020, making it to location X in Hallstatt in Austria, the location that inspired the Disney movie Frozen, in just over 32 hours.
Butler and Browne made up Team 21, The People’s Champignons.
The team that raised the most money was a Trinity team, Make Jailbreak Green Again – Ross McCann and Niamh Carey. So far they have raised €3091.
Over the weekend, teams of two faced the challenge of racing across Europe without spending any of their own money in order to reach an undisclosed Location X, which is revealed through a series of clues.
Six teams raced to Location X, Hallstatt in Austria, today by train, bus, plane and even boat.
Once the teams got off the boat at Hallstatt, they embarked on a 100m sprint in order to be crowned the winners of Jailbreak 2020!
In the weeks leading up to the event, participants raise funds for charities and are expected to not use this money throughout the race.
Jailbreak, which originated in Trinity in 2013, has expanded and now is open to all universities in Ireland.
The organisation is still fundraising via its website www.jailbreakrace.com and has already reached its target of €30,000.
