Mullingar man dies in Spain

Tributes have poured in for a Mullingar man who died after falling from the balcony of his apartment in Spain.

Thirty three year old Anthony Ennis died from injuries sustained after falling from the balcony of his eighth floor apartment on the island of Majorca in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Spanish media reported that emergency services treated the Marlinstown native at the scene but were unable to save his life. An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the tragedy.

Mr Ennis is understood to have lived in Spain for a number of years and was working in the Stereo Bar in the resort town of Magaluf.

Fianna Fail councillor Bill Collentine said that it was “very sad to hear that a local young man from Mullingar had died in such tragic circumstances”.

“It's a shock to hear this especially in these difficult times and I send my sympathies to his family.”

Cllr Mick Dollard, mayor of Mullingar Municipal District, said that the town was shocked to hear of Mr Ennis' untimely death.

"It is very sad. My thoughts and thoughts of the people of Mullingar are with his family at this difficult time."

Mr Ennis was a popular member of the ex-pat community in Majorca. Many of his friends have posted moving tributes to him on social media.

“I am so shocked. I’m devastated. What a guy. I have known Anthony from the first day he arrived in Majorca. A true gent just like the rest of his family,” one of his friends wrote on Facebook.

“So sorry to hear such devastatingly bad sad news. Lost for words you will be sorely missed Anton. Such a pleasure to have known you and always a gentleman,” another friend wrote.
