WATCH Day in the life - Charlestown Racing
Racing journalist and broadcaster, Dave Keena, visited Dot Love and Ciaran Murphy at Charlestown Racing, just outside Mullingar, and produced a lovely video that would interest anyone, not just those who follow racing.
As racing opens up again next week, and Kilbeggan prepares to host a National Hunt meeting on June 29, Dave’s visit is timely and gives a great insight to what goes on at a busy working stables.
Ciaran is taking a positive outlook: “Last January, February, we refurbished the whole gallop, we put in a strip for the stalls, we’re trying to build every year and improve things, and keep moving forward.
“We spent a lot of money on the place, Dot and myself, you know you have to have the facilities. When an owner sends us a horse, we like to think we’re doing the best for them and for the horses, and try and get the best results we can.
“There’s no room for negativity in racing, because if you’re negative, you’re not going anywhere.
“You have to think forward, move forward and be positive... that’s how you succeed.”
