Forecast from Met Éireann (https://www.met.ie/forecasts/leinster)
Leinster, issued at 6am on 28 September 2020
Today, Monday September 28
Rather dull and damp to begin today, Monday, with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle this morning. Brighter and drier conditions will gradually spread from the west, with sunny spells developing in most parts by the early afternoon, and just a few well scattered showers. Warmer than recent days with highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees. Mostly moderate southerly winds will veer westerly as the rain clears and will ease later.
Tonight
Mostly dry and clear tonight with just patchy cloud and the chance of an isolated shower. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees with a touch of frost possible. Winds will be light westerly or variable which may allow a few mist and fog patches to form under the mostly clear skies.
Tomorrow, September Tuesday 29
Tomorrow, Tuesday will be a largely dry and bright day with sunny spells, especially through the first part of the day. An isolated light shower is possible during the afternoon and cloud will gradually thicken from the west towards evening. Top temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with light southerly breezes gradually freshening.
National outlook
Summary: Reasonably mild to begin this week, but turning cooler and more unsettled from midweek.
Tuesday night: Wet and windy. Rain in the west and southwest will turn heavy and persistent, and extend countrywide overnight with potential for spot flooding. A transition to showers will be under way in parts of Connacht and west Munster by dawn, however.
Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees. Moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds, strong to near gale on the coasts, will veer westerly and ease in the west and southwest with the clearance.
Wednesday: A wet and blustery start to Wednesday across the midlands and east, with heavy rain for a time and a continued risk of spot flooding. Brighter, sunnier conditions with scattered showers in the west will gradually extend to most parts through the morning.
Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees. Moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds in the east, strong to near gale at the coasts at first, will veer westerly during the morning and gradually moderate. Showers will continue into Wednesday night, most frequent in the west, where some will be heavy and possibly thundery with hail.
Longer clearer intervals will occur over eastern parts of the country. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees, coldest in the east where some grass frost is possible. Light west to southwest breezes will be moderate at the coasts.
Thursday: Widespread showers for a time on Thursday, some of the showers heavy and possibly thundery with hail. Sunny spells too, though. The showers will become more isolated in the west and southwest later in the afternoon.
Light southerly breezes veering westerly. Cool, with highest temperatures of just 10 to 12 degrees. Showers becoming isolated on Thursday night with long clear spells developing in light variable breezes. Lows of 2 to 5 degrees with some grass frost developing.
Friday: Current indications for Friday suggest it will be another cool and showery day with maximum temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees. However, there is potential for some heavier falls of rain and strong winds in the south, but confidence in this scenario is low at this stage.
Next weekend: Low pressure likely to dominate with further showers or longer spells of rain likely. Potential for strong winds in the east on Saturday.
