Eleven of the 197 patients on trolleys today are in Mullingar

Eleven of the 197 patients on trolleys in hospitals across the country today are at the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar.

Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation conducts a survey each day - Trolley Watch - and it has found that 160 of the total number of patients are in Emergency Departments (ED).

In Mullingar all 11 patients on trolleys are in the ED.

Today four of the 197 patients are younger than 16, according to Trolley Watch.

The hospital with the highest number of patients on trolleys today is once again University Hospital Limerick, where there are 40 - of whom 26 are in the ED.

The number for the Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore is one.
