Met Éireann issues weather warning for Sunday
Met Éireann have issued a Yellow Rainfall Weather Warning for Sunday, affecting counties Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
It is likely due to Atlantic storm Alex which will continue to impact the region over the coming days before bringing heavy rain and a risk of local flooding and coastal flooding to Ireland on Sunday.
The national met office is forecasting heavy and at times, intense rainfall, with totals of 25 to 40mm expected.
River levels will be elevated as a result of this rainfall, which may result in some rivers flooding as well as surface flooding.
The weather warning has been issued for 7am Sunday morning, lasting until 9pm that night.
Tomorrow, Saturday, will see a bright start for most areas and mainly dry. Cloud will increase however throughout the afternoon, with scattered showers developing in the west, while rain will push in from the east through the evening.
Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in moderate to fresh northerly winds.
It will be wet and blustery for the remainder of the weekend, with Met Éireann stating that unsettled conditions look set to continue throughout the week ahead.
Saturday night will bring rain in the east, extending westward to affect much of the north and east of the country overnight.
It will be heavy at times with a risk of spot flooding. There will be a mix of dry spells and scattered showers elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh and gusty northwest winds.
Sunday will start off wet in most areas with heavy and prolonged rain leading to a risk of localised flooding.
Eastern parts will begin to clear during the morning, however the rain will persist in the west.
Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees in moderate to fresh, gusty northwest winds, which will ease light northerly as the rain clears.
