BT Young Scientist success

We are delighted to announce that Patrick D’arcy, 5th year, has received confirmation that his project has been accepted into this year’s BT Young Scientist Competition.

Patrick has a keen interest in science and is studying physics and chemistry. He has worked closely with his physics teacher, My Melody, on the project and is delighted to have it accepted for consideration at this year’s competition, which is a virtual one.

Patrick’s project is based on sound frequencies and fire safety. It is called The Wide Awake’.

Patrick is no stranger to representing the school in innovative competitions, as he entered the Student Enterprise Programme last year and won the top prize for his region .

Patrick went on to represent the region in the national competition last year.

Positive Mental Health Week

This week, the school held a series of events to promote good mental health. The events included talks from guest speakers, presentations and advice from staff, and games were held to inform students about the risks around mental health and the need to talk to friends, family and teachers about issues that may arise.

A fancy dress competition ended a fantastic first half-term back at Castlepollard Community College.

New canopies for social distancing

It’s been more than a month now since staff and students returned to the college, and Covid-19 restrictions have brought changes to the daily life – however, everyone is happy to be back with old friends and our first years have made a great start to their time in Castlepollard Community College.

In the school, there are sanitisation stations at every room, a new one-way system to get around the building and the removal of furniture has created more space.

This week new canopies have been installed to give the students a greater chance to be outside with their friends and take full advantage of the leisure areas around the school building.
