Carpenter wants to help those struggling to afford gifts this year

The young man behind a company called Plant a Ring is offering to help people who might be struggling to afford presents this year.

Dean Gannon from Streamstown established Plant a Ring in 2018.

He hand-crafts bespoke jewellery and gifts using reclaimed wood and resin, and for every piece sold, a tree is planted.

Dean’s father David is a bespoke carpenter, and as Dean grew older, he wanted to learn the craft.

He says woodworking is both versatile and fulfilling, but he was concerned about the amount of waste timber that accumulated during each project.

Dean investigated and found that in the USA alone, more than one billion trees worth of waste wood and paper are thrown away each year.

The world is destroying trees at a substantial rate and we need them to survive, he said – and so, Plant a Ring was born!

That's the background, and now as #lockdown2 hits, he is offering to help others.

Dean said: “With this pandemic I feel a lot of families may not be able to afford presents for their children, family and friends, and that is why I’ve decided to offer assistance to any family who may struggle to pay for gifts.

“I can offer people large discounts for handmade gifts.

“The pinch is there for everyone and I would like to help people where I can.”

This is Dean’s statement on Instagram.

‘To anyone who may struggle to afford all the presents that they need this year, please get in touch.

'I have no problem helping if you are not in the position to pay full prices for items on our store.

'It’s a horrible time for these new lockdown measures and with Christmas around the corner, I understand a lot of families and couples may struggle to get what they need.

'Just get in touch with me via social media or email and we can arrange something for you.

• If you need pieces engraved with names – that can be done free of charge along with zero postage fees with every order.

'I can post you out a free ring sizer if you’re not sure of ring sizes. Don’t be stuck!’
