Ballynacargy cleans up to make room for Santa’s presents

Westmeath Community Development, working in partnership with Caraphort Family Recourse Centre, was able to source funding under the SICAP programme to support a clean-up in the Ballynacargy area this week.

On Monday last, December 7, Adrian of Munnelly Skip hire delivered a 14-yard skip to the Carrickmore estate , a 14-yard skip to the Tower View estate, and a 30-yard skip to the Harbour View area for bigger items such as furniture and washing machines.

A spokesperson from the area said: “The day was a great success, which encouraged us to clean up the estate and to make room for Santa coming to our homes.

“Adrian Munnelly delivered skips at 10.30 in the morning and was back to collect the filled skips within an hour – it was a great opportunity for us to work together as a community, and we hope that we can get the support of Westmeath Community Development and the Family Resource Centre to do this type of action again in the future.

“We would also like to thank the workers of the CE scheme, who were on hand throughout the day to offer a helping hand, throwing large items into the skips.”

The SICAP government programme run under the auspices of Westmeath Community Development supports disadvantaged rural areas such as Ballynacargy, and further funding can be obtained in 2021 should the residents of Tower view or Carrickmore choose to bring about change and improve their areas through activities such as the clean-up, or organisation of other events.
