A seven year old Westmeath girl with a love for farming learned a valuable new skill this week when she delivered her first lamb.

Displaying admirable composure for one so young, Lauren Dixon from Killucan calmly delivered the lamb on Monday morning while her father Wayne videoed her at work.

The video was posted on the Farmers Journal Facebook page on Monday night, where scores of people complimented Lauren. The video also came to the attention of RTE, who interviewed Lauren on Tuesday.

Displaying the same level headedness as she did the day before when delivering the lamb, Lauren had no trouble speaking to RTÉ.

"I pulled the lamb and I got to hold it after. It was amazing.

“"My favourite thing is feeding the lambs, feeding the cattle, giving them fresh water and giving them straw and stuff."

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, Lauren's proud father Wayne said that his daughter is happiest when she is out helping him on the farm and is “delighted” with the attention the video of her first delivery has received.

“She'd be at it every day when she'd come home from school or at the weekend. She is mad for farming. She has a few sheep of her own and rears a few lambs herself.”
