Community field and centre project fundraising drive launched

A long-proposed development of the community field at the Horseleap Streamstown Community Centre starts this spring, and the people behind it are looking for support.

Aidan Walsh, PRO, Horseleap Streamstown Community Association, said: “We have secured €145,000 in funding for phase one of the development – the groundwork and installation of a newly expanded playing pitch and an extended walking track on the boundary of the facility.”

The total cost of phase one is in the region of €200,000, and funding is being provided through Westmeath Leader.

The full development will take place in three major phases over a seven to 10-year period.

Phase two (planned for 2024/25) is for a redeveloped and extended community centre, and phase three (planned for 2026/2027) is the landscaping and installation of completed lighting and final embellishment of the facility.

“This will serve our community well into the future,” said Mr Walsh.

“To draw down our grant and bridging finance, we require €15,000 in minimum funding before draw-down.

“The last year has seen numerous lockdowns and fundraising has been decimated, so we are holding a draw to help build momentum to a brighter future!”

The draw will take place on Sunday April 4, and the prize fund is €7000, with a top prize of €5000.

Ticket numbers will be capped to a maximum of 300.

Tickets are on sale online and from committee members so people do have the option of purchasing at home from their phones, tablets or laptops or traditionally in paper format.

The draw is on Easter Sunday – April 4.
