Loreto College 3D printing teams need your help
Since September, 24 TY students in Loreto College Mullingar have been participating in 3D printing classes with their teacher Robert Masterson.
During the classes, students have learned how to graphically design 3D objects and models using the online software tool Tinkercad.
They have also been learning how to slice their designs to prepare them for 3D printing, using the printer the school received in summer 2019.
The students have been busy throughout remote learning, finalising their project plans for the outreach educational programme called ‘Shaping Your Future’, which is run in conjunction with IMR and I-Form.
The students have also been busy preparing entries to the ‘Luma StarT’ competition in Finland. The school group ‘Keyzy’ received a highly commended award at the competition in the past.
Loreto College are excited and proud to announce that this year two of their TY 3D printing teams, mentored by Mr Masterson, have been selected for the public voting stage in the ‘Luma StarT’ competition.
The groups are: ‘Mask Minder’ – Cliona Sheerin, Alice McDonnell and Holly Hynes; and ‘Twist & Take’ – Fiadh Donlon, Emily Flynn and Emily Shaw.
More than 500 entries were received from around the world and both teams have been chosen among the top 30 – they are the only teams from Ireland to get to this stage of the competition.
How you can help
In order to progress further, the girls need you to visit the Loreto College Facebook page or school website, www.loretocollegemullingar.com, to get the link to like their videos.
The more likes they get, the greater chance they have of making it to the final in June and winning a trip to Finland at the end of 2021.
Alternatively you can go directly to find the voting page and click on ‘Mask Minder’ and ‘Twist and Take’ to vote. https://padlet.com/lumakeskus/start_projects_2021
Voting closes on April 15.
Please share with friends, families and neighbours to support our girls and show Ireland and the world that Loreto College, Mullingar is leading the way in promoting STEM for young women!
